An insert from Emmas talk ‘The Lost Coast of Somerset.
‘Some leaves find their way, from the Quantock and Exmoor hills, in to streams and then rivers where they leach acids, which are carried in to the Bristol Channel.
These acids can help the growth of plankton – the first in the oceans food chain, leading to higher yields for fisheries and oyster growers.’
‘The Lost Coast of Somerset’
Here, Emma takes us through a magical journey through time, including stories of smugglers with all their hideouts and secrets, to the beautiful village of Porlock with its lucrative fishing and oyster industries. The use of local Oak for a medley of trades.
Find out about the ancient port of Watchet, what was mined at Blue Anchor and
much more.
A thought provoking and historical journey.
‘The Bristol Channel & Driftwood’
You will never look at wood quite the same, after this talk! We learn about where the driftwood is likely to have travelled from.
What trees they have derived from, shapes and colours. Not to mention sea worms and their significance to history and engineering. Yikes! Along with sad and humorous shipwreck tales, we are glad to be on land! This is a fast paced roller coaster ride!
‘My Artwork Stripped!’
We start at the beginning here, with Emmas inspirations, her materials and extensive knowledge, right through to examining her finished artworks.
Listening to Emmas inspirational stories, influences and love for the elements, we find ourselves with a sudden desire to go foraging, to absorb our surroundings and
learn from nature.
A truly inspiring insight into an artists mind and soul.
‘Trees and all their Wisdom’
We rarely wonder what is happening below our feet and out of sight. Emma opens our eyes to a communication system covering miles of soil, the ‘wood-wide-web’ is revealed as we enter an incredible hidden kingdom. And we thought we could see trees!
Stories of fact and mythology from our ancient ancestors, to how we can benefit from
just a stroll in the woods.
An extremely ‘eye-opening’ journey, Emma leaves us wondering what else we never
knew….
